Michelin Expands OTR Tire Safety Program

(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin North America’s (MNA) OTR tire group is expanding the safety training program it launched two years ago to cover all earthmover tire users.

Developed to raise safety awareness in mining companies, MNA said the now-expanded program will explain best safety practices to managers, maintenance personnel, equipment operators and support staff at quarries, construction sites, ports and other businesses that utilize large equipment.

“A stronger tire safety plan can help significantly reduce unsafe incidents and improve productivity,” said John Funke, director of marketing for MNA’s Michelin Earthmover Tires unit. “This program will give personnel at all levels the knowledge and tools needed to create a safer work environment, which will also help reduce costly repairs and machinery downtime.”

The program includes 12 one-hour modules: Safety and Tire Management; Personal Tire Safety; Tire Selection and Limits; Delivery, Storage and Handling of Earthmover Tires; Safety Around Rim and Wheel Components; Mounting, Inflation and Demounting; Haul and TMPH (TKPH); Tire Technology; Tire Inspection and Damage Assessment; Tire Shop Work Environment; Tire Repair; and Nitrogen Inflation and Tire Fires.
